Yes Yes Y’all … !!!!!

So, Kadooment movements done for another year & foreday done, so, it’s time to move on …..

Thus, in speaking with many artists of varying degrees & levels over the last few, it has become apparent to me that, as Bajan arts & culture go, Bajans seem to think their chit don’t stink …. !!!!!

Well, hate to burst that rasshole bubble, but, errr, in the majority of cases, it does folks !!!!!

However, this is not solely down to the artists, although, they clearly have much to assess within themselves, their wish to be original, their devotion & ideologies, surrounding what matters to them artistically.

As i’ve said before, women, both young & old, seem to have all these righteous quotes & upliftment vibes in their facehook posts, yet, seem to be the same ones complaining about how dem’ head & body hurting dey skunt, after partying dey crotch not only, into oblivion, but, probably a number of dutty mans’ zippers …. !!!!!

Hmmmmm ….. the artistry that is reflected in the JUMP, seems to promote much that these same ladies & fellas, want to criticize in Bajan behavior throughout our past, present & future behavioral, tendencies.

Is this hypocrisy i’m seeing … !???!

…. or just the fact that, essentially, all the big talk in dee world doesn’t matter when it comes to joining in with, what has been expressed to me as being, Pagan Wickedness, by certain Bajan Headz.

The women seem less willing to speak on the issue, almost as if they know in their heart of hearts, that, they …..

I am mindful of speaking too extensively on them, as I have yet to go to any of their shows, but, that’s because i’ve seen nothing advertised that has interested me, and, have heard, far too many people speak critically of their events, management practises & their complete lack of biting, gritty material, that challenges & EDUTAINS, the mental state of Bajan people, through art that reflects on more than crop over day, a colonial, slavery related, acknowledgement, of the subservient nature of Bajans, to their slavemasters, when they’d been whipped, flogged & god knows, whatever else, to provide a healthy yield for the plantation owners to profit from, while they got a day of freedom from beatings etc & all of the above !!!!!

So, this is what gyal skin out dey pussy fa … !?! … and men run afta dey ass fa … !?!?!

…. after getting drunk & rubbing up themselves pon’. whatever piece of loose ass, that, avails itself fa some … rub a dub crutch !!!!!

Antiquated styled, comedic sketches, that, went out with the dark ages, yet, this is sponsored & financed by, not only government & media, but, by the likes of the NCF & NIFCA …. Hmmmmmm …….

So, this US influence, doesn’t seem to ring true now does it … !???!

Yes, Bajan Calypsonians are what the island, from an entertainment perspective, is known for, and in all honesty, need to be proud of, but ……

…… and it’s a BIG BUTT, apparently …. !!!!!

…. that seems to now cavort on stage, and now, represents that, which, I believed to be an artform, that was/is meant to challenge the powers that be, in lyrically strong, socio-political, commentary …….

Wunnah getting’ to the point, much like the rest of the world, where, what is said, matters much less than, breast & leg …. !!!!!

Sooooo … there is actually some sense of US influence, yeah, the nasty part of what they deal wid of course, which seems to be what fuels many Bajan heads, even white ones, as I will explain in a later post ….

However, these things are not just a Bajan problem only, but, hey, the world is a big place, with plenty of bigger countries, with bigger ideals & bigger & broader artistic invention & more importantly, development & investment.

I say that reservedly, because … “The West”, has got huge issues with the same artistic groups, denying the masses artistry, that, in effect, they know, would destroy their little private clubs of bureaucratic fassyholes, who indulge in everything that has made artforms like, “Spoken Word”, come across as farcical, soft and effeminate, and, nothing more than good for small, quiet clubs, where love poems & whispered delivery of words belong.

So, with all this U.S. influence, where are the Bajan poets who have seen Def Poetry Jam on CBC, and, have been inspired to write & perform poetry that has, bite, social content, humour & POWER in it’s performance ….

However, they would seem to be the ones supporting the ignorance just as much as the poor folks, who, unfortunately, do not know any better right ???

Hmmmmm …. thus artistry here, seems to perpetuate that symbolism of white control & black subservience, in a very dangerous way now, because they no longer need to put us in chains, they just chain, Black Bajan Brains to art that maintains the ideal of ….

Thus when Kadooment is ova … most black folks are gonna do what, go back to their own businesses, that have international connections & growth on their mind …. ???

Okay, maybe their going back to their artistic centers of culture, which THEY RUN efficiently, effectively & without pandering to the aforementioned, mentally tired & regressive heads …..

i was supposed to be involved in an event tomorrow, which, other spoken word artists were supposed to be doing. Now, the txt I received has come from an artist who was confirming that :

One – It is tomorrow …. and ….
Two, that he can no longer make it ….

Hmmm … now, the chap who called for my appearance, has spoken with me once in some six weeks about it, stating that, he would call me before to arrange dates, etc, have I received a call … ???

Hell Nooooo …. !!!!!

About as respectful & organized as A Pimp dealin’ wid prostitues pon the lowest of the low corners …..

Indeed, art is about dealing’ wid dee devil & sacrificing your soul to be known ….

I immediately replied to said, fellow artist, do your ting & never mind this fakery, which, in this instance, is to be a Bajan Diaspora Event …. so much for linking wid foreign nationals with Bajan heritage ….

So, on that note, as I chill listening to some classical music, it is clear that their is an arts industry in Bim ….

The problem is ….

It’s an Art Industry of Fukry …. !!!!!!

…. annnnddd …. my worry is that in an island this small, an infectious plague of such proportions, may already have reached the point of no return !!!!!

I once again urge people to look at the Youtube interviews Zingha has done with Peter Headley … !!!

You may not, as I don’t, agree with everything he has to say, or the manner in which he says it, but, at least it’s frank, and appears to be heartfelt & honest ….

…. unlike much that resides behind the closed doors of the Bajan arts community, and sadly, in my view thus far, many of it’s artists !!!!!

   Some folks may not like the the truth – but if you don’t hear the truth how can you evolve to be better???

   Really and truly Virge I have no qualms about what was said here, because really and truly, I used to say that we trying to do the American thing, but, upon de enlightenment of your thoughts and pondering on them, YOU are quite right, its simply the loss of our simple, yet, essential culture as Barbadian ppl, that is lost, if u don’t sing sain slack, stupid or sporty, u ain saying nain, if u say sain too close to home, dem wanna stiffle ya vibes and only we, as artist, can take that firm stance for change, but, when men doing it for fame n money, de few doing it for music, fighting in hell, but as Winston Churchill said “If you’re going thru hell, keep going!!!”
